Unit One Materials 

Before we can get going, we need to understand a few things about the material that we will be using. After you, the student, are finsh with this unit, you will know.... 

•  What is the difference between hardwoods and softwood?

• What is plain sawing and quarter sawing?

After you have done the readings, you should be able to answer the questions on the worksheet that the teacher will be giving you. 

The first site is  Lowes Home Improvement, it is an article about lumber and there are many excellent pictures to help you better understand the material.    READ ALL OF PARTS LISTED on that site. The last site that you will be visting is all about the diffrent ways that a log cut. The reading will explain the advantages and disadvanages of eah way. It should answer all of the remaining questions on the worksheet. Good luck!

After you read ALL of the readings, you have ALL questions answered on the worksheet. After we have gone over this information, there will be a test. Most of the questions will come right off of the worksheet.
